I wonder...
As the end of the third quarter approaches, your children are becoming more and more proficient in their reading comprehension. They have learned to determine importance from both fiction and non-fiction tests. As we continue to monitor comprehension, we are encouraging them to wonder and ask questions about what they have read. They are learning to seek out information to answer the questions they are asking.
Please take some time to have your child learn their home address and phone numbers. Not only will this fulfill one of their Social Studies AKS in Kindergarten, but it will also ensure their safety in case of an emergency.

Author's Extravaganza Update- Save the Date!!!
Our Author's Extravaganza has been moved to a new date due to CRCT testing. The new date will be announced shortly. Please stay tuned!
Rocks and Soil
As we begin our rocks and soils unit, we are asking that each child bring in an empty egg carton. These will be used by the children to store their own little rock collections. Your children will be savvy geologists by the time we conclude the unit!

Author's Extravaganza- Save the Date!!!!
What an exciting time of year this is. The children are realizing that they are not just writers, but rather, authors. We have begun our three-month project. The children are busy writing their very own books. However, this isn't just any kind of writing. They are learning to go through the entire writing process- from brainstorming, topic selection, main idea, character selection, setting, beginning, middle, end, details, editing, first, second, final drafts, typing, illustrating, dedication pages, about the author pages, and so much more!
They can not wait to share their masterpieces with you. However, they have been instructed to keep their work a secret so as to surprise you. Please plan on joining us on April 27th at 6:00 pm in the Media Center for our Author's Extravaganza. It is an event that you will not want to miss!

Literacy Center Volunteers
I would like to meet with all those who said they would be available to volunteer in the classroom. I will need volunteers that are available any given day from 10:00-11:00 AM to help us during our Reader's Workshop time. If you are available during this time on any given day, please let me know. We will have a brief meeting on Thursday, September 16th at 3:15pm in our classroom. We will discuss what your role will be while in the classroom and I will answer any questions that you may have to that end. I would like to start our volunteers on Monday, September 20th.
